Overview
Better Jobs Ontario is an application-based grant program that provides unemployed individuals with financial assistance for skills training, up to two years in duration, to transition them into high-skill, in-demand occupations. This program is available to unemployed individuals who have been laid-off or are from a low-income household experiencing challenges attaching to the labour market.
Financial assistance can help with training-related costs such as tuition, books, and other instructional costs, transportation and basic living allowance, based on individual need. Additional funding may be available for dependent care, disability-related supports, living away from home supports, and Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) and/or language upgrade training.
Individuals interested in skills training must meet with an Employment Services (ES) / Integrated Employment Services (IES) provider and complete a thorough employment service needs assessment prior to applying to Better Jobs Ontario.
ES/IES providers support individuals through the application process and are responsible for assessing individuals against the Better Jobs Ontario eligibility and suitability requirements. The ministry is responsible for reviewing the eligibility and suitability assessment submitted by ES/IES providers as well as assessing the financial need of individuals to determine the appropriate amount of financial support.
