Announcing the release of the 2026-2027 Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program (Pre-App) Call for Proposals (CFP)
What Is Happening?
Ontario is facing labour shortages, with employers reporting recruitment challenges, particularly related to finding workers in high demand trades. It is estimated Ontario will need over 400,000 workers in skilled trades-related occupations over the next decade.
Now, more than ever in Ontario’s history, people require employment and training services. For instance, employers need to secure the skilled talent to fill job vacancies in areas of technology, manufacturing, and the skilled trades. Additionally, there is a need to train workers for the jobs necessary to build the province.
Youth unemployment in Ontario is elevated, reflecting a challenging labour market for young people. Reducing barriers and challenges related to youth unemployment is a priority for Ontario.
Pre-App provides dedicated funding to successful organizations to support individuals interested in working in a trade, but who may not have the skills or experience to get a job as an apprentice. Potential apprentices can develop the skills that employers are looking for, making it easier for them to find someone to sponsor their apprenticeship.
Program funding offered includes workplace health and safety, work placement, and apprenticeship training in skilled trades.
How to Apply
Organizations can now submit an application for Pre-App funding. Applications will be accepted until October 27, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The ministry welcomes applications that propose to deliver pre-apprenticeship training opportunities for a broad range of participants, including individuals from underrepresented groups.
Applicants can apply for funding through Transfer Payment Ontario (TPON). TPON is the Province of Ontario’s online application system for grant funding. Primary Applicants must register with TPON to access the Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program application form. It is important for applicants to understand the steps for registering with TPON prior to application submission. Information on registering and accessing TPON is available on the Ontario website.
