Am I able to change the name of the school in a student’s record?

Yes. After opening the student’s record, click the Program Participation tab. You’ll see the current school name. Under that, you’ll see “What would you like to do?” Click “Add/update school name.” This function is explained in the EOIS-APPR User Manual for School Boards.

Could you make the cursor move automatically from field to field when entering SIN numbers, phone numbers, and birth dates (instead of having to use the tab key)?

No. This is a requirement under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

The system times me out after 15 minutes of inactivity. Can you make it longer than 15 minutes?

No. This is a government-wide IT security standard.

Are Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) participants exempt from minimum working age regulations?

No. Regulations made under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) set out the minimum working age for certain industries. OYAP participants are not exempt from these regulations. Go to the Minimum age for work page on Ontario.ca for more information.

Do the exemptions apply when the student is working at the placement outside of the specified co-op days or hours (e.g. after school, weekends) but still during the specified co-op period?

It depends on whether the student has a registered training agreement (RTA) or not: Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) participants (i.e., they do not have an RTA): the exemptions only apply while they are working at the specified placement site for the dates and hours indicated on the Work Education Agreement (WEA). Sometimes the employer/sponsor is unaware of the exemption for the practise of compulsory trades. How can I make the employer/sponsor aware?

School boards that deliver the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) have created an OYAP Placement Card that includes the exemption regulation. Please contact the chair of your regional OYAP recruiters’ group for access to the card.
