Better Jobs Ontario: Updated Three‑Year Career Outlooks

From:Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development
To:All service delivery partners

What Is Happening?

The Ontario Labour Market Information website was updated on February 6, 2026 to reflect new three-year career outlooks for 2025 to 2027. This update means that several career profiles, such as transport truck drivers and social and community social workers, have revised provincial labour market prospects based on the latest data and projections.

Under the Better Jobs Ontario (BJO) program, applicants who select training with “good” or “very good” provincial employment prospects, based on the three-year outlooks on the Ontario Labour Market Information website, are fast-tracked into the program through the EOIS-CaMS eligibility and suitability assessment template. They automatically receive the highest possible score in the following criteria: Active Job Search, Duration of Unemployment and Work History.

Individuals who select training programs that do not have “good” or “very good” provincial employment prospects (i.e., limited, undetermined or moderate) can still be eligible for BJO. However, these individuals must demonstrate that there is evidence of employment opportunities (i.e., current job postings and/or employer attestations) for this occupation in the BJO application form.

Where Can I Find More Information?

To support service providers in their conversations with BJO applicants, the ministry has distributed a document to the Regional Integrated Employment Services Units (RIES) that outlines all the employment outlook changes. This document lists all occupations whose labour market prospects have changed between the two outlook periods, helping service providers determine any impacts on in-progress or new applications.

Who Is Affected?

Ministry staff, service system managers (SSMs) and service providers responsible for the administration of the BJO program, as well as BJO program applicants.

What Should Be Done Now?

Service providers are required to use the three-year outlook indicated on the Ontario Labour Market Information Website when assessing applications.

Background

The employment outlooks used in Ontario’s LMI tools (including Career Explorer) are sourced from the federal Job Bank website, which is managed by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). Employment outlooks are typically refreshed on a regular annual cycle, aligned with ESDC releases. Once new outlooks are available, Ontario LMI works to publish them as quickly as possible following internal review and system updates.

Contact Information

Service providers that have any questions about the changes are asked to contact their local ministry representative.
